Using Essential Oils in the Workplace

Today, people are expected in accomplish more in less time. Talk about stress! While we can’t just quit our jobs or detach from life, we can enhance the environment we’re in to help us deal with the pressures that come our way. Essential oils can be blended to help aid in our emotional well being. Here are a few essential oils and some ways to use them at work.

You can purchase ready made products from local retailers, but if you want to try something new and create your own product, here are a couple of recipes you can use. For the spritz spray, add 20 drops to 5 ounces of water and swirl. If you let the spray sit for any time, just remix by swirling the bottle and spray. For the massage oil, blend 10 drops of essential oil with 1 ounce of carrier oil. The mixes have a shelf life. If you see any discoloration, it’s time to make (or buy) a new batch.

Some of us are on our feet a lot and our feet need some refreshing!

Take some time to take care of those peds by getting a foot massage. You can purchase the massage oil from a local retailer or you can even create one yourself using base massage oil and adding a few drops of essential oil like peppermint. It’ll do wonders for your feet! Maybe you don’t need a quick massage but just need a little pick-me-up. Try making a peppermint spritz spray using the essential oil and applying that to your feet when they are achy.

The stress that accompanies working late hours in order to meet deadlines takes a toll on your body.

Combat that fatigue with a grapefruit essential oil spritz spray. Spray it in the air for a revitalizing effect. The aroma is invigorating and helps to clear the mind. If you use a fan at work, try placing a bowl of the spray water near it so that the air stream of the fan blows the aroma emitted by the water. You can apply the massage oil on the back of your neck and shoulders for some refreshment.

The lavender and roman chamomile essential oils can be used for reducing stress and irritability.

The calming aromas of these essences help us to stay relaxed. When we’re relaxed, we can focus on the work we need to do. We may even see an improvement in our relationships with our co-workers!

For the men, essential oils such as patchouli combat fatigue and burnout and reduce stress levels as well.

If you use a lamp near your work station, place a drop of oil on a hot light bulb (WARNING: do not do this with halogen bulbs!). Keep the massage oil of your favorite essence handy and apply it to the neck and shoulders as needed.

There are many more essential oils that can be used in more ways than described here.

The combinations are endless! As you gain more experience working with essential oils, you can even start to blend two or more oils together for different effects. Have fun starting your collection of oils today!
